Atiku Gets Permission To Inspect Electoral Materials

The Presidential Election Tribunal sitting in Abuja, has granted Atiku Abubakar , the presidential candidate of Peoples Democratic Party his request to inspect the electoral materials used during the February 23 presidential election.

The access was granted on Wednesday but the three-man panel has refused the party to make photocopy and scan the election materials to aid their legal war.

The tribunal during the ruling also prohibited any cross examination and forensic analysis on the materials. While card readers will not be available to retrieve information and data captured during the election.

The Counsel to Atiku and PDP while responding after the hearing said the three man panel led by Justice Abdul Aboki interpreted section 155 of the Electoral Act, meaning that petitioners could be granted all prayers listed in the application.

He however added that resisting his client from carrying out proper forensic inspection on the electoral materials is seen as a threat to Nigeria’s democracy and a sabotage from the Presidency.

Before the close of the hearing the judges were still skeptical to all prayers as contained in the application, allowing a forensic reports and audit of the election materials.

As expected ,the hearing did not generate any apprehension or concern in the polity following preparations for Saturday’s governorship and State House of Assembly election.
