Fear grips Gov. Aminu Tambuwal over governorship election

Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, is in a state of fear and panic over what the outcome of Saturday’s governorship election might be, following President Muhammadu Buhari’s landslide victory in the state during the presidential election.

Tambuwal, who is going for a second term on the platform of People’s Democratic Party, is presently in a dilemma. The governor claimed, after the last presidential election, that the results released in Sokoto State by INEC were false and rigged in favour of the president.

The former Federal Speaker, on discovery that he may not win the governorship election on Saturday under the umbrella of PDP, has resorted to reaching out to the National Working Committee of APC to deliver him at the poll on Saturday, March 9.

With his desperation to retain power in Sokoto State, the governor was said to have sent Sultan of Sokoto to the president to seek his support to win on Saturday, promising to return to APC after his victory.

Recall that Tambuwal, after becoming the governor of the state on the banner of the ruling party in his first term, defected alongside Atiku Abubakar to PDP to realize his presidential ambition.

The governor, after his defection, labelled the president and his party a failure and went ahead to contest the presidential ticket in PDP.

He came second behind Atiku Abubakar and picked his second option to return as governor of the state, having lost the presidential bid.

Tambuwal became unsettled after the presidential election, sensing that the Sokoto electorates are highly sympathetic to the All Progressives Congress, and he might lose, the reason he resorted to seeking support from the ruling party.
