2019 Election: No 10k No Vote- Adhoc Staff Protests the Non Payment of Allowances by INEC

No 10k No Work! INEC Adhoc Protest non-payment of allowance.... undermine Gubernatorial and State assembly election

Happenings

Today is the Governorship and state assembly election across the country and in some parts of Nigeria the Supplementary Presidential election.

However there is a protest by adhoc election staff over the non- payment of their allowances by INEC.

Furthermore the adhoc staff of INEC is alleging that they are yet to be paid for their service at the Presidential election 2 weeks ago.

Polling units in parts of Lagos like Kosofe, Mushin and Mile 12, have adhoc officials protesting with placards that reads, ‘No 10k No Vote’ or ‘No 10k No Work’.

These disgruntled INEC officials are bemoaning the terrible welfare and inconvenience they have experienced in the course of the election.

The shocking thing about these protests, is the fact INEC Commisioner, Festus Okoye, confidently affirmed that all outstanding payments have been made to adhoc officials.

As a result of these protests, affected polling units are yet to commence the Gubernatorial and State assembly election and the election is expected to be concluded by 2 pm.

Other parts affected are: Okota, Isolo, Ojodu Berger and some parts of Surulere. Recall that these parts of Lagos had the Presidential election cancelled because of violence and ballot box snatching, thus it is expected that a supplementary Presidential election will be conducted in these parts.

Leaving a rather niggling questions, is this a systematic attempt to disenfranchise Nigerians who should be participating in the supplementary presidential election.
