After the controversial Presidential election held in February 23, which was marred by electoral violence in some parts of Nigeria, the results by INEC has been met with condemnation.

Thus on the matter of Nigerians who were disenfranchised by ballot box snatching and violence, the electoral commission has agreed to conduct supplementary Presidential elections in some states in Nigeria, alongside the governorship and state assembly election today, March 9, 2019.

According to the INEC chairman, Mahmood Yakubu, 14 states will conduct the supplementary presidential election. Some of these states are: Lagos, Rivers, Kogi, Sokoto and Kaduna.

As expected Nigerians have criticised the move by INEC to conduct a supplementary Presidential election, after giving the certificate of return to the incumbent President, Muhammadu Buhari.

Furthermore there is an uproar that northern states, Kaduna and Sokoto will conduct this supplementary election.

Recall that according to the results by INEC, the incumbent, President Muhammadu Buhari won Sokoto and Kaduna, with 490, 333 and 993, 445 respectively.

There are reports albeit unverified that by including Sokoto and Kaduna states in the list of states to conduct the supplementary Presidential election, there is a move to offset the votes from some Eastern states and parts of Lagos.

Also recall that Eastern states are considered a PDP stronghold.
