Saraki Loses Political Hold On Kwara As APC’s Abdulrazaq Wins Governorship Election

The Senate President, Olubukola Saraki, has finally lost his political hold on Kwara State following the victory of the All Progressives Congress candidate, Abdulrahaman Abdulrazaq, as winner of the Kwara State governorship election.

Abdulrahaman scored 331,546 votes to defeat his PDP counterpart, Abdulrazaq Atunwa, who polled 114754 votes.

The result, as announced by INEC, Abdulrahaman of APC, beat Atunwa from PDP with a wide margin of 216,792 votes in all the 16 local government areas of the state.

The victory has further hit Saraki like a rocket after losing his senate seat to Ibrahim Oloriegbe from APC during the presidential and national assembly elections.

When Saraki lost his bid to return to the senate during the last election held a fortnight ago, he believed he would bounce back and remain the godfather of Kwara politics if his candidate, Atunwa, wins the election and takes over from the present governor, Abdul Fatai Ahmed.

But he was wrong, as the political waves of the ruling party won all the seats in the state.

There are speculations that the former Kwara State Governor may likely go on exile to avoid being humiliated by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Before now, there were several cases hanging around him but the immunity of his office as senate president has been his saving grace from being arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

Besides the Kwara robbery saga that claimed about sixty lives, Saraki’s false declaration at the Code of Conduct Tribunal is among the things the federal government may use to nail him.
