Mrs. Olubunmi Adekanye, the permanent secretary, Lagos State Ministry of Education, has advised pupils in Lagos State not to hold back information and to report any case of domestic or sexual abuse.

She gave this advice at the 2019 Commonwealth Day celebration, themed "A Connected Commonwealth”, on Monday at the Adeyemi Bero Auditorium, Lagos.

While urging the students to call for help when in distress, she called out the helpline, *6820#. She further affirmed that the lines are being handled by experts in the Ministry of Justice and warned people against its indiscriminate use.

"Children, have it in mind that you all owe this nation and humanity responsibility to report violence against you, your neighbour, a friend, and colleagues. Help the government to help you rescue you from any abusers. I will be fulfilled if everyone, young and old, is at peace,” she said.

Students from various districts of the state participated and competed in many fun activities, including drama, fashion parade, dance, poetry, etc. They made the event a memorable one.

Child molestation, rape, domestic violence have become the order of the day. As a parent, how well do you know your children? Do you ask about their day when they return from school?
