Onnoghen Absent in Court Over High BP And Toothache ...CCT Adjourns Proceedings Till March 18

The embattled Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen was absent at his hearing before the Code of Conduct Tribunal on health grounds.

The suspended Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen is presently suffering from tooth ache and high blood pressure, thus this was the reason for his absence at today’s hearing.

The embattled Chief Justice is facing a trial before the Code of Conduct Tribunal over the false declaration of assets.

His counsel, Adegboyega Awomolo while addressing the court on his behalf informed the court that Onnoghen developed the ailment on Monday night.

To back up his claim, Adegboyega tendered a medical report from the hospital.

Also commenting on the ailment, the lead prosecution lawyer, Aliyu Umar also confirmed the receipt of the copy the medical report signed by one Dr. Francis Uche, a Medical Director of Ideal Medical Service.

Aliyu Umar in his address added that at his old age he understood Onnoghen’s ailment, adding that the medical report stated that the justice should be allowed to have a bed rest for 72 hours.

He noted that the ailment is enough justification for Onnoghen to be absent in court.

“Taking into consideration the order of the court yesterday (Monday) on day-to-day proceedings and the health condition of the defendant,

“I urge the court to adjourn the matter till Monday when we can have five days straight.” the prosecuting lawyer added.

The CCT Chairman Danladi Umar in his ruling declared that the hearing would be adjourned till Monday, March 18, for Onnoghen to recover from his illness.
