Ambode Mark Buildings For Demolition
Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, on Wednesday said drastic measures would be taken on buildings within the area of the collapsed building at Ita-Faji, Lagos Island, Lagos.
He noted that all the buildings around the vicinity would be demolished if they fail the integrity test, which will begin in a few days.
The Lagos State Governor dropped the hint during his visit to the scene of the collapsed three-storey building which occupied a primary school.
“This area and building here will be undergoing an integrity test.
“As you can see some of the buildings have been marked for demolition.
“We have been receiving pleas from house owners from the area.
“Notwithstanding, we will go ahead with the integrity test and any building that fails the integrity test will be demolished,” Ambode said.
This development is coming after a three-storey building earlier today, Wednesday, collapsed at Ita Faji, Lagos Island, killing scores of school pupils.
Serious searching is still ongoing at the scene by the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency to rescue more people who are trapped inside the building.
According to reports, over 25 persons have been so far pulled out from the rubble and rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
