Cold War in Osun State as Gov. Oyetola Snubs Aregbesola’s Son For Chief of Staff Appointment

The political atmosphere in Osun state is getting heated, with Governor Oyetola biting the fingers that fed him, as he snubs Rauf Aregbesola’s son and Tinubu’s aide for Chief of Staff  appointment.

Osun State governor, Gboyega Oyetola during the week shocked many with his appointment of Chief of Staff.

He snubbed his predecessor, Rauf Aregbesola’s son Kabiru Aregbesola and Tunde Rahman, an aide of APC national chairman, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu from occupying the enviable position of Chief of staff as presented to him by his political god fathers.

To the chagrin of many, Oyetola, on Thursday announced his preferred candidates against the those forwarded to him by his principals.

The statement made available to the media by Adeniyi Adesina, the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, revealed Diji Akintola as the governor’s choice for the plum position.

While Prince Oluwole Oyebamiji and Adeyanju Abdulahi Binuyo were appointed as Secretary to the Osun state Government and Deputy Chief of Staff respectively.

The appointment according to informed sources has signaled the beginning of a cold war between Oyetola and his predecessor, Aregbesola who before the end of his tenure insisted that Kabiru, must be the new governor’s Chief of Staff.

Recall that Gboyega Oyetola was Aregbesola’s Chief of Staff during his 2 term as Osun state governor.

It took Governor Oyetola close to four months to select members of his cabinet, causing tensions in his camp. However he resolved the situation on Thursday by appointing his preferred candidates, therefore dousing these tensions in the interest of the party and the state.

Checks confirmed the development is presently brewing serious friction among the three political gladiators, Oyetola, Aregbesola and Tinubu.

Although Tinubu is yet to speak on the new appointment as Oyetola’s half brother, however there are speculations that he may be preparing for a political showdown with the governor.

It is also expected that Aregbesola would feel betrayed by Oyetola, after supporting his governorship bid and giving him a juicy portfolio in his cabinet, while he was governor.

Clearly one good turn is not deserving of another in this case.
