Osun Governorship Election: Oyetola Heads To Appeal Court

I will appeal the judgement - Oyetola

Funsho Akinwale

Osun State Governor, Adegboyega Oyetola, said he would appeal the judgment the Osun State Election Petition Tribunal held in favour of Senator Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party.

The governor, in a statement released by the Secretary to the State Government, Wole Oyebamiji, on Friday, a few hours after the tribunal ruling, said justice will prevail.

“The Government of the State of Osun wishes to appreciate the teeming support of the majority of the people in all things essential for mutual progress.

“As it is, the administration of His Excellency, Adegboyega Oyetola, Governor, State of Osun wishes to assure the people that the judgment of the Election Tribunal has been put on appeal.

“This is to further assure all the residents of the state of adequate security of lives and properties, as the Government of the State is still the only legitimate government having the authority to govern the State.

“We assure all our people that justice will prevail at last, and the law enforcement agencies have been instructed to maintain law and order across the state.

“We therefore urge all the residents of the state to go about their lawful duties without any hindrance,” Oyebamiji stated.

The Election Petition Tribunal in Abuja on Friday declared Adeleke winner of 2018 Osun State Governorship election.

The three-man panel stated that the rerun election held on September 27, 2018, which ushered in Oyetola as governor was illegal.

It was on this premise that the tribunal sacked Oyetola after deducting his votes scored from the illegal rerun.

The court, however, said Adeleke won the election at the first ballot on September 22, 2018, adding that the electoral umpire only devised a means to reach a final conclusion a week later with the illegal rerun election.
