INEC Declares Tambuwal, Ortom Winners Of State Governorship Election

Tambuwal and Ortom win Sokoto, Benue state governorship election

Governor Aminu Tambuwal and Governor Samuel Ortom have won Sokoto State governorship election and Benue State governorship election respectively.

The Independent National Electoral Commission, on Sunday, declared the two state governors winners of the March 9 governorship election in their respective states.

While Aminu Tambuwal, the candidate of People’s Democratic Party returned for second term as Governor of Sokoto State, his Benue State counterpart, Samuel Ortom, also won in his state as new governor elect under the platform of PDP.

Prof. Fatimah Mukhtar, the Returning Officer for Sokoto State, while announcing the final result, said Tambuwal won with a total score of 512, 002 to beat his closest rival, Ahmad Aliyu, of the All Progressives Congress, who polled 511,660.

The former federal speaker won with a slim margin of 342 votes.

In Benue State, Ortom, the current governor of the state, scored 434, 473 votes to defeat his close rival, Emmanuel Jime, of the ruling party, who polled 345,155 votes.

The Returning Officer, Sabastine Maimako, declared the incumbent governor, Samuel Ortom, as the governor elect of Benue State.

Ortom won his opponent with a margin of 89,318 votes to return for his second.

The victory has sparked off jubilation in Benue and Sokoto states.

Many thronged the major roads in the states to express their happiness and celebrate the victory of the governors.
