The current Governor of Plateau State, Simon Lalong, has won plateau State governorship election.

The final result, as announced by the Returning Officer, Prof. Richard Kambir, said the incumbent governor, Lalong, of the All Progressives Congress, scored a total of 595, 582 to defeat the People’s Democratic Party candidate, Jeremiah Useni, who scored 546, 813 votes.

He also beat 23 other candidates to emerge as the winner of March 9 and 23 governorship elections in the state.

While the jubilation was ongoing among the governor’s supporters across the state, the aggrieved PDP candidate, General Useni, held a press conference where he rejected the outcome of the election.

Useni, during the press briefing, noted that the result released in favour of Lalong did not reflect the voting pattern of the people who turned out to vote massively at the election.

He said he would go to tribunal to reclaim his stolen mandate given to him by the people of Plateau.

“My team and I have gone through both the official results released by INEC and the documents submitted by our own field staff.

“We have every reason to believe that justice has not been done to our people in this election because there was massive rigging and electoral shortcomings.

“After due consultation, I hereby state that the result announced by INEC is not acceptable to us,” Useni stated.

He thanked party members and supporters for their resilience and commitment and implored them to remain calm and continue the struggle until the mandate is reclaimed.
