Atiku’s petition against Buhari’s victory commences today
The Presidential Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Abuja will today, Wednesday, March 26, commence hearing on the petition of Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of People’s Democratic Party, filed against the victory of President Muhammadu Buhari at the February 23 presidential election.
The former Vice-President and his party are seeking to cancel the declaration of Buhari of the All Progressives Congress as the winner of the presidential poll.
A five-man panel of the Justice of the Court of Appeal is expected to preside on the hearing session on the petition Atiku lodged at the tribunal on March 18, 2019.
If things work in favour of Atiku, the panel headed by Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa and Justice Abdul may force the Independent National Electoral Commission to grant all the parties access to the electoral materials used during the election.
The former Vice-President, who is optimistic of victory at the tribunal, believes he has enough evidence and witnesses at his disposal to retrieve his stolen mandate from the president.
