President Muhammadu Buhari alongside Kaduna State Governor, Malam El' Rufai, and the presidential team, on Monday, left Abuja for Dakar, Senegal, to attend President Macky Sall's inaugural ceremony following his second term re-election.

Femi Adesina, the president's spokesman, said: "The Nigerian leader will be accompanied by Governors Mohammed Abubakar, Nasir El-Rufai and Tanko Al-Makura of Bauchi, Kaduna and Nasarawa states respectively.”

Others on the presidential entourage include the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Geoffrey Onyeama; National Security Adviser, Maj-Gen Babagana Monguno (rtd); Director-General, National Intelligence Agency, Ambassador Ahmed Rufai, and other top government officials.

“The President is expected back in the country at the end of the inauguration ceremonies,” Adesina stated.

Recall that Senegal held its Presidential election in February 24, 2019 and the incumbent president, Macky Sall, was re-elected with over 57% of the votes.

Senegal has been commended as one of the African countries with an enduring democracy. Thus their peaceful election has been commended by the international community.

The Nigerian election is riddled with conflict, which is in sharp contrast to the more modern form of voting that had Senegalese in diaspora voting in their embassies.
