The incumbent governor of Rivers state, Governor Nyesome Wike has just been declared the winner of the Guber Polls.
The incumbent Governor of Rivers state, Nyesome Wike, has just been declared the winner of the March 9th Rivers guber election by INEC.
According to the electoral commission, having polled a total of 886, 264, he crushed his major challenger, Biokpamabo Awara of African Action Congress (AAC) who had 173,859 votes.
Recall that Wike contested on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and since he became the governor of Rivers in 2015, there has been conflict between him and the past Rivers Governor, Rotimi Amaechi.
Furthermore, Rivers has been a hot spot for electoral crisis, with many losing their lives at Abonema during the Presidential election held in Feb.23, 2019.
While announcing Wike as winner, the INEC returning officer, Prof. Adias said:
In addition, INEC said a total of 1,234,840 votes were cast during the Rivers gubernatorial election.
