The suspended Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen, has resigned his appointment after much humiliation and damage done to his personality.

Onnoghen voluntarily tendered his resignation letter to President Muhammadu Buhari, on Thursday, to possibly avoid the outcome of the National Judicial Council investigation reports earlier submitted to the president.

Though as at the time of filing this report, the presidency was yet to confirm the resignation letter received from Justice Walter Onnoghen, a reliable source in the presidency confirmed that Malam Abba Kyari, the Chief of Staff to the President, received the letter.

Recall that NJC queried the acting CJN, Justice Ibrahim Tanko Muhammed, a few days after his inauguration at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

The judiciary body also queried the suspended Justice Walter Onnoghen before the two judges were given seven days to respond to the queries against them.

Onnoghen was asked to explain to NJC the allegations made against him and his failure to declare all assets as stipulated by the law.

A dependable source, however, said that Onnoghen only stepped aside as a result of the NJC report which he believed might not favour him. This is the reason he threw in the towel.
