Several commercial banks were forced to close down following bank robbery attacks in Ido Ani, Ose Local government Area of Ondo State, on Monday, which claimed seven lives and left many injured.

The incident has since Tuesday paralyzed all business activities, including banks which affected the adjourning communities.

Many bank customers, who had come for bank transactions on Tuesday, were disappointed and returned home with regrets after waiting endlessly for banks to open.

A senior bank official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said the closure is as a result of Monday’s robbery attacks where several banks lost a substantial amount of money.

He added that adequate security measures have to be put in place before full banking operation returns to the community.

Recounting the ordeal, a customer identified as Bello who witnessed the attacks, said he was not aware of the robbery at Idoani before coming to the area.

He noted that he is presently stranded in the area and finds it difficult to return home due to the closure of banks.

Ondo State is relatively known as a state in the South West with the country’s highest rate in armed robbery and other crimes, including drug trafficking, murder, rape and kidnapping.

The state government is yet to find a solution to the menace.
