For years, many have taken measures to hide the stretch marks on their bodies. But thanks to media personalities and influencers, who are encouraging people, especially young ladies to embrace and love their bodies, this is changing.

Bolanle Olukanni is one of those people encouraging others to embrace their stretch marks. She explains that when she was 12 years old, she had stretch marks on her shoulders. She felt too conscious about it and took to wearing long clothes in order to hide it, while her mates wore tank tops and lived carefree.

I first got stretch marks on my shoulders when I had my first growth spurt . I was probably 12. All my friends would wear tank tops and spaghetti tops and I felt like I had to cover my shoulders. It affected my confidence during my teenage years and I spent my early adulthood hiding my shoulders. Well, I finally got over it and I realized it’s not a big deal. So to women and men who have stretch marks and feel self-conscious about it ...please don’t - you are beautiful no matter what ! ❤️❤️❤️ #beautylook #growingpains #stretchmarks #flawsandall

According to the media personality, she has finally gotten over the fear of the public commenting on her stretchmarks. She wore a sleeveless dress to the wedding of fellow actor and media personality, Akah Nnani, and decided to share her story to inspire someone also struggling with stretch marks.

Many women deal with stretch marks and try out different products, which they believe might fade the marks. It is indeed heartwarming to see a public figure embrace her body and encourage others to do the same. This is a message that would go a long way in addressing the issue of body shaming.
