It is applaudable when public figures utilize their influence in effecting change. Ebonylife TV presenter, Bolanle Olukanni, is encouraging women to embrace their stretch marks and she has her story to tell.
For years, many have taken measures to hide the stretch marks on their bodies. But thanks to media personalities and influencers, who are encouraging people, especially young ladies to embrace and love their bodies, this is changing.
Bolanle Olukanni is one of those people encouraging others to embrace their stretch marks. She explains that when she was 12 years old, she had stretch marks on her shoulders. She felt too conscious about it and took to wearing long clothes in order to hide it, while her mates wore tank tops and lived carefree.
According to the media personality, she has finally gotten over the fear of the public commenting on her stretchmarks. She wore a sleeveless dress to the wedding of fellow actor and media personality, Akah Nnani, and decided to share her story to inspire someone also struggling with stretch marks.
Many women deal with stretch marks and try out different products, which they believe might fade the marks. It is indeed heartwarming to see a public figure embrace her body and encourage others to do the same. This is a message that would go a long way in addressing the issue of body shaming.
