In readiness for the inauguration of the incoming governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, on Tuesday formed a 20-member transition committee to embark on a seamless transition to the next administration.

The inaugural ceremony is expected to hold on May 29, 2019, which is the official handover date of the government in Nigeria.

At the inauguration event of the 20-man committee on Tuesday, Tunji Bello, representing the governor, stressed the need to prepare for transition because the inauguration of the incoming governor holds in a few weeks’ time.

He added that the transition is paramount to ensure that the government continues to run without hindrance, considering the economic importance of Lagos State to the country.

“To maintain the country’s economic and social stability, build on the solid status of our state and give the next administration a smooth take-off, it is imperative to quickly put in place a transition committee whose major responsibility is to ensure a seamless transition to the next administration.”

“For us in Lagos State, it has been a progressive race in which every successive administration builds upon the achievement of the past administration,” he said.

The co-chairman of the committee will be headed by the Deputy Governor-elect, Obafemi Hamzat, and Tunji Bello.

Other members of the committee include Hakeem Muri-Okunola, Akinyemi Ashade, Mrs Yetunde Onabule, Adeniji Kazeem, Ade Akinsanya and Mr Obafela Bank Olemoh, among others.

The governor, after the inauguration, charged them to give the committee the diligence and commitment it deserves.

Babajide Sanwo-Olu of the All Progressives Congress at the March 9 governorship election defeated the People’s Democratic Party governorship candidate, Jimi Agbaje, in a landslide victory.
