Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha’s Certificate of Return application, on Wednesday, suffered a set back as Justice Taiwo Taiwo of the Federal High Court, Abuja, withdrew from the case filed by the governor.

Okorocha had headed to court to seek an order forcing the Independent National Electoral Commission to present him a Certificate of Return as the duly elected Senator for Imo West Senatorial District.

The judge, during the court proceedings, made the announcement to stop presiding over the case as a result of allegations of bias levelled against him.

He further stressed that the case file would be returned to the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Justice Adamu Abdul Kafarati, to reassign the case to another judge.

The judge, while expressing his displeasure at the suit, said his decision was sequel to allegations of bias made against him by Jones Onyeriri, the candidate of People’s Democratic Party for the February 23 National Assembly election.

In Onyeriri’s petition made available to court, Justice Taiwo was asked to disqualify himself from the suit following the utterances he earlier made in court.

Justice Taiwo’s pronouncement surprised the defendant counsel, who had prepared for the case.

But no date has been fixed yet for the case, as all lawyers involved will have to wait until the case is reassigned to another judge.
