The Code of Conduct Tribunal has fixed Thursday, April 18, for the final judgement of the former Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen.

The hearing came up on Monday, barely a week after Onnoghen resigned as Chief Justice of Nigeria.

Danladi Umar, who led the three-man panel, the prosecuting counsel, Aliyu Umar, and the defense counsel, led by Okon Efut, all agreed to Thursday as the final judgement day.

Okon, during the hearing, said that the prosecution of Onnoghen failed to prove the six counts beyond reasonable doubt as required by law and urged the tribunal to dismiss the case.

He added that Onnoghen’s statement made at the Code of Conduct Bureau was not confessional as alleged by the prosecuting counsel.

The Chairman of CCT, in his conclusion, said the verdict would be delivered along with two pending rulings on Onnoghen’s applications, one challenging the jurisdiction of the tribunal to hear the case and another one asking the CCT chairman to disqualify himself from further presiding over the case for being allegedly bias.
