Award-winning actress, Charlize Theron, has finally addressed rumours of raising her 7-year-old son, Jackson, as a girl.

The South African-born American actress and film producer has faced criticism after photographs of her 7-year-old son wearing skirts and dresses with long braided hair surfaced online.

Confirming in an interview with Daily Mail that she is raising her son as a girl, the actress said, “Yes, I thought she was a boy, too. She looked at me when she was three years old and said: ‘I am not a boy!’

“So there you go! I have two beautiful daughters who, just like any parent, I want to protect and I want to see thrive. They were born who they are and exactly where in the world both of them get to find themselves as they grow up, and who they want to be, is not for me to decide. My job as a parent is to celebrate them and to love them and to make sure that they have everything they need in order to be what they want to be. And I will do everything in my power for my kids to have that right and to be protected within that.

Nigerians have berated the actress and mother of two over what they term an unjust reason for allowing a 3-year-old make decisions. In their opinion, transforming Jackson's look to that of the opposite sex at the tender age of three is highly irresponsible.

They have further argued that Charlize should have stood her ground and encouraged him to continue being a boy, and perhaps waited till he was of age to make the decision himself.
