Drogba, Weah to play at Ambode’s farewell match.
As the Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, prepares to leave office on May 29, one of the activities lined up to mark the day is a farewell football match set to hold on May 18. 2019.
The special football match is expected to field World Footballer of the year and President of Liberia, George Weah.
Weah will also play alongside world football icons, including Dider Drogba and other ex-Nigerian International stars.
Waheed Akanni, the Chairman of the organizing committee, in a statement made available, said that the farewell match was aimed at giving Ambode a befitting farewell.
“Governor Ambode has served Lagos meritoriously for four years; so, the match will be played at the newly remodeled Onikan Stadium on May 18, which is 11 days to his final handover on May 29.
“Aside from George Weah and Drogba, other African legends have signed up for the game between African legends and ex- Super Eagles’ stars.
“Others who will play on the side of the African legends are Michael Essien and Samuel Eto’O Fills,” Akanni said.
