The Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal sitting will begin today, Wednesday, in Abuja.

The tribunal’s first sitting will dwell on four petitions challenging the victory of President Muhammadu Buhari.

One of the major petitions is that of the Peoples Democratic Party and its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.

The Independent National Electoral Commission had declared Buhari the winner of the February 23 presidential election.

According to the electoral umpire, Buhari scored a total of 15,191,847 votes to beat his closest rival, Atiku Abubakar, who polled 11,262,978 votes.

Challenging the result, Atiku faulted INEC’s result in favour of the president, saying that the results obtained from INEC’s server showed he beat the incumbent with 1.6million votes.

Both the president and INEC have countered the claim.

Other petitions expected to be treated at the tribunal include Aminchi Habu, presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Movement (PDM); Ambrose Owuru of the Hope Democratic Party (HDP) and Geff Chizee Ojinka of Coalition for Change (C4C).

The tribunal will, during its inaugural sitting, set out modalities for operations including dates for hearing.
