The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has taken over some properties in Lagos belonging to the Senate President, Olubukola Saraki.

The choice mansions are located at 15a, 15b, and 17 MacDonald Road, Ikoyi area of Lagos State.

A family source, who craved anonymity, said the properties were seized on Friday to commence a fresh probe on the Senate President.

“The EFCC had been making inquiries into the finances and assets of Saraki for quite some time. They came to inscribe ‘EFCC, Under Investigation’ in red on the walls and the fences.

“The irony is that even houses that don’t belong to Saraki were marked.

“From what we were told, they are keeping him under strict surveillance ahead of May 29, 2019 when they may invite him,” the source said.

Findings also confirmed that Saraki only declared the houses on 15a and 15b Macdonald Road in his asset declaration form, leaving out some others he acquired from the Presidential Implementation Committee for the sales of government property through Shell.

Reacting to the seizure, the former Kwara State Governor said he had been tried, discharged and acquitted of the charges, adding that the properties were the result of his arraignment before the Code of Conduct Tribunal by the federal government.

Yusuph Olaniyonu, a media aide to the Senate President, while speaking on the issue, noted that he had never seen a place where someone, who had been declared innocent over a particular issue by the highest court in a country, would still be persecuted over the same issue.

“So, if the highest court in the land had adjudicated and made a pronouncement on an issue, can it be reopened?” Olaniyonu asked.
