NLC protesters storm Abuja to demand the removal of Chris Ngige as Labour Minister
Abuja was agog today as members of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) took to the streets to protest against the Minister of Labour, Senator Chris Ngige.
This is coming days after the violent face off between security operatives of the Minister and representatives of NLC at Ngige’s home. The bloody face off landed several members of labour in the National hospital in Abuja on Wednesday, May 8th, 2019.
Recall that a reason for the violence, was a protest against the minister for his refusal to inaugurate the Board of the NSITF (Nigerian Social Insurance Trust Fund).
Although the Labour minister has denied colluding with thugs to mete violence upon Labour members who picketed his residence. The NLC President, Comrade Ayuba Wabba is denying that the protest is about the NSITF board, rather to protest the deplorable conduct of the Labour Minister.
Furthermore NLC is saying that Senator Chris Ngige is not fit to hold the lofty position of Labour Minister.
In light of these turbulent circumstances, Senator Ngige has finally inaugurated the Board of the Nigerian Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF), under the chairmanship of Mr. Austine Enejamo-Isire, with the backing of president Muhammadu Buhari.
The protest and face off, is one of many between the Labour minister and NLC.
