Lagos Deputy Governor-Elect’s Father, Pa Hamzat, Laid To Rest

Pa Hamzat, the father of the Lagos Deputy Governor-elect, has been buried.

The Ogba area of Lagos is presently locked down as Oba Mufutau Hamzat, the father of Lagos Deputy Governor-elect, Obafemi Hamzat, is being laid to rest at his Yaya Abatan Ogba residence .

The late traditional ruler of Afowowa Kingdom in Ewekoro Local Government Area of Ogun State, Alhaji Hamzat, died last night at the age of 86.

As at the time of filing this report, more notable personalities and dignitaries, including the Lagos State Governor-elect, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, were pouring in for the burial, with the operatives of the Lagos State Traffic Management Agency putting up spirited efforts to manage the traffic situation.

Pa Olatunji Hamzat was a prominent Lagos politician in the first republic and was a leader of the Action Group and the Unity Party of Nigeria in the Second Republic.

The Lagos Deputy governor-elect, while describing his father, said Pa Hamzat as a great man committed his life to the public service.

“I thank God for a life well spent by my father. He was a great man who brought up his children with the time, values of hard work, integrity and commitment to service.

“He impacted positively on many lives till his death.

“He played important roles in the politics of Lagos State from the days of Action Group.

“In the Second Republic he was a chieftain of Unity Party of Nigeria and was at the fore-front of progressive politics in Nigeria and Lagos in particular.

“He was called upon to be the king of his community in Ogun State much later in his life.

“He served the community well,” Obafemi Hamzat stated.
