Israel’s Prime Minister is set to visit Nigeria 61 years after an Isreali Prime Minister last visited.

Shimon Ben Shosan, the Isreali Ambassador to Nigeria, has said the Prime Minister and President of Isreal, Benjamin Netanyahu and Reuvin Rivin, have concluded arrangements to visit Nigeria 61 years after an Isreali Prime Minister visited in 1958.

The foreign diplomat added that it would be historical if President Muhammadu Buhari could also visit the country.

Ben Shosan made this announcement on Friday while presenting his letters of credence to the president at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

Although the president had already invited Netanyahu to attend Nigeria’s Democracy Day celebrations coming up on June 12, the ambassador is not sure whether Netanyahu would honour the invitation, but he spoke of the many years of bilateral relations between Nigeria and Israel.

‘‘Next year will be 60 years of diplomatic relations between Nigeria and Israel, and the last time a Prime Minister of Israel visited Nigeria was in 1958.

‘‘My dream is to bring my Prime Minister and President to visit Nigeria and for President Buhari to visit Israel.

“That will be historic for us,” the ambassador added.

Femi Adesina, the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity who confirmed the envoy’s visit to the villa, acknowledged that the diversity of Nigeria is the strength of the country.

“The President said Nigeria and Israel have enjoyed cordial bilateral relations, highlighting that many Nigerian Christians look forward to performing pilgrimage to the Holy Land in Israel,” Adesina said.
