Ahmed Lawan emerges Senate President.
Ahmed Lawan, a member of the National Assembly, has been sworn in as the new Senate President by Mohammed Sani-Omolori, the Clerk of the National Assembly.
Ahmed defeated Senator Ali Ndume by 79 votes to 28 in an election to emerge the 9th Senate President.
With his victory, Ahmed is now empowered to oversee the election of other Principal Officers of the Senate.
Ahmed, a member of the ruling party of the All Progressives Congress, is from Yobe North constituency of Yobe State.
Lawan, who is expected to surpass his predecessors, has said he would carry all members along irrespective of their gender, religion, tribe and political affiliations.
