FRSC To Retrieve Special Plate Numbers From Saraki And Others

FRSC Asks Saraki, Ex-Lawmakers to Return Number Plates

Funsho Akinwale

The Federal Road Safety Corps has asked Bukola Saraki, the former Senate President, and over 200 former lawmakers to submit their special plate numbers to the federal government for failure to return to the National Assembly.

According to the agency, 69 senators and 151 members of the House of the Representatives are expected to return the plate numbers to the Clerk of the National Assembly as requested by FRSC.

Bisi Kareem, the FRSC Public Education Officer, on Thursday confirmed the latest move to the media.

He said, “Yes, we have written to the clerk of the National Assembly to direct former lawmakers to return official number plates issued to them. We expect the clerk to reach out to them; we cannot get across to them ourselves, that was why we wrote to the National Assembly about it.”

“The number plates have expiry date, hence there is no basis for holding on to it after June 2019 because those who issued it said it’s between 2015 and 2019.

“Although some may just remove it and throw it away but for record purposes, it is better to return it to the National Assembly management which distributed them to us.”

The new development has, thus, indicated that the paraphernalia office of the Senate President has literally gone for Saraki and other lawmakers who couldn’t make it to the Red and Green Chambers.

Apart from the number plates, other benefits accrued to them, including security, housing, aides, foods, healthcare and more have been withdrawn from them as a result of leaving the government.
