From all indications, it seems the battle has been drawn between the immediate past governor of Lagos State, Akinwunmi Ambode, and Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu following the recent threat statement made by the national leader of the ruling party.

The southwest political godfather was quoted to have said he would leave the All Progressives Congress if the president appoints Ambode as one of his ministers.

Tinubu is reacting to the ongoing rumour milling around that the president would replace former Minister of Power, Housing and Works, Babatunde Fashola, with Ambode in a bid to spite Jagaban, as he is often called, and his Lagos men.

One of Asiwaju’s great fear for Ambode becoming a minister is the fact that it will not only empower him politically but will also give him the needed relevance, connections and form alliance with the likes of Governor Nasir el-Rufai of Kaduna State to edge out Tinubu from political influence across the country.

Recall last year, Ambode suddenly became a new bride to President Muhammadu Buhari after he fell out with his godfather and benefactor.

At the tail end of Ambode’s administration, the president was in Lagos to commission several uncompleted projects around the city, letting political tongues wag and the moves became glaring that the president was in close romance with Ambode
