Two sons of the former Kogi State governors have both declared their intention to unseat the sitting governor, Yahaya Bello, during the state governorship poll scheduled to hold in November.

The race has become intense, as more people are signifying their interest to run, including the prominent senator, Dino Melaye, who declared his intention a few weeks ago.

Prince Mona Mustapha Audu is one of the aspirants who is battling with the governor in the same party with Bello.

Mustapha’s father, Prince Abubakar Audu, was Kogi State Governor between 1999 and 2003, after a truncated rule between January 1992 and November 1993.

The former governor died shortly after winning the November 2015 Kogi gubernatorial election for APC.

His death paved way for the emergence of Yahaya Bello who was the first runner up in the party’s primary election to become governor in the stead of the deceased.

The other aspirant seeking to take over from the incumbent is Abubakar Idris, the son of a former two-term Governor of Kogi State, Ibrahim Idris.
