The Almanah Hope Foundation and media personality, Tushee, observed this year’s International Widows’ Day on Saturday, June 22, 2019, with a charity walk.
With the theme “End Every Widowhood Rites That Violate Women’s Dignity”, the charity walk which began at Ikeja City Mall was organised to support and encourage widows.
People came out en masse to give voice to their anger and frustration over the plight of widows.
“We are urging the government, NGOs and international agencies to support the widows by empowerment or skill acquisition program to help them stand tall. The walk was a successful one as even the rain couldn’t stop us,” one of the participants noted.
The charity walk is a yearly event held to mark the International Widows’ Day which is celebrated the world over on June 23.
