Appeal Court Orders Sack Of Ekiti State Chief

Jayfred Ugo

The Ado Ekiti Court of Appeal has ordered the immediate sack of Owa of Odo Ayedun, Oba Ilesanmi Ajibade, for the illegal process that led to his rise to the throne.

This ruling is in conjunction with the initial verdict of the Ekiti State High Court and was concluded in a unanimous decision reached on Tuesday, June 25.

The tussle for the position of the Oba and first selection process was held on November 2, 2009, where the court validated the appointment of Prince Adeniyi Adekunle who doubled as an assistant director in the state's ministry of information.

The judge in charge of the case, Justice Dawodu Williams, had earlier resolved in acquitting Prince Adeniyi of the false accusations levelled against him. The judge stated: "No evidence whatsoever shows that the selection process that produced Prince Adeniyi was marred by violence and rigging."

However, Mr Obafemi Adewale, the counsel of the appellant, Oba Ilesanmi Ajibade, has vowed to proceed to the Supreme Court to appeal against the 'sacking' of his client.
