Nigerian celebrities have gone agog with the shocking revelations and new turn of events surrounding the alleged rape case between Biodun Fatoyinbo and Busola Dakolo.
At first, when the video of Busola's admission of her past came to limelight, some celebrities were a bit skeptical about joining the movement for fear of tarnishing the image of a revered man of God. But some close celebrities, including Lala Akindoju, Sasha P, among others, believed her story and encouraged other rape victims to come forward. Twitter users started a campaign to that effect because they needed more proof other than Busola's to make the case legal.
Immediately after Fatoyinbo's bogus reply, in which he only refuted allegations of rape but failed to mention if he had sex with Busola or not, the social media space was disrupted. The hashtag #Pastorstepdown became more than a social media order but an online protest.
Celebrities have since used their platforms to speak out and address the issue, calling for the pastor to step down and letting another pastor take over until the rape allegations are settled.
See what some top celebrities have had to say about the rape allegations against Biodun Fatoyinbo.
It is applaudable to see celebrities utilize their platforms for such a great cause, speaking against a big scourge that is eating deep into the society. But more should be geared towards legal proceedings following the case, because it transcends social media. It should be appropriately and legally dealt with.
