President Muhammadu Buhari, on Wednesday, suspended his plan to position the Fulani and their cattle on acquired lands across the 36 states of the federation.

The Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, on behalf of the president put a hold on the move after he held a closed door meeting with representatives of all the six geopolitical zones of the country at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Recall, the likes of Samuel Ortom, Governor of Benue State; Kayode Fayemi, Governor of Ekiti State, including all South East governors had earlier faulted the Ruga settlement initiated by the president.

Governor of Ebonyi State, Mr Dave Umahi, who spoke to the media after the meeting disclosed that the Ruga settlement would not work with the National Livestock Transformation plan, which was earlier approved by the vice president.

“We, the NEC committee on farmers/herders crises under the chairmanship of His Excellency, Mr Vice-President, met today to deliberate on the approved programme of NEC and the Federal Government, tagged ‘National Livestock Transformation Programme.’

“We are aware today that Mr President has suspended the implementation of the Ruga programme, initiated and being implemented by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources,” Umahi stated.

Also speaking at the meeting was Governor Samuel Ortom who commended the president for suspending the idea of settlement of herdsmen across the country.

He described the suspension as a victory for peace-loving Nigerians.
