Madagascar's fairytale run at the Africa Cup of Nations came to an end on Thursday as they were outclassed by Tunisia.

The Malagasy team had impressed with their performance all through the competition, win two of their three Group B games, including a victory against Nigeria that helped them secure top spot in that group.

Then they pulled through on penalties after playing a 2-2 draw against the Democratic Republic of Congo in the round of 16. But the Tunisians were too strong for them in Thursday night's encounter.

The North Africans smashed the impressive Nations Cup debutants 3-0 at the Cairo Military Production Stadium to become the fourth team through to the semis.

Three second half goals for the Tunisian established their superiority over the surprise package of the tournament.

Ferjani Sassi's 52nd minute strike opened the scoring for the Carthage Eagles before captain, Youssef Msakni doubled the lead on the hour mark.

Naim Sliti added a late third to seal the victory for Alain Giresse's side as they look on to a tough test against Senegal.

The 2004 AFCON Champions were wasteful for most part of the game and would need to be more clinical if the are to scale through the Teranga Lions on Sunday.

Senegal, Africa's top ranked team are chasing their first continental title and would be favourites but the Tunisians are more than capable of cutting short that ambition.
