Super Eagles’ loss against Madagascar in their final group game could be a blessing in disguise according to team handler, Gernot Rohr.

Nigeria were beaten 2-0 by the Barea at Alexandria Stadium almost two weeks ago as they finished second in Group B behind the debutants.

That loss resulted in Nigeria taking what has been described as many as the more difficult route on their way to the semis.

Nigeria had to overcome tough ties against Cameroon in the round of 16 and South Africa in the quarter finals to qualify for the last four.

But Rohr has explained why he thinks the defeat was good and the major reason they are still in the race for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations title.

"The loss to Madagascar was our joker,” Rohr said in a presser.

“We could lose it because we had already qualified for the next round. We wanted to allow others in the team to play as well.

“We can forget about the defeat to Madagascar now because we are through to the semi-final. Even the defeat helped us to be more humble and sometimes it is good also.”

Nigeria play Algeria on Sunday in Cairo as they continue thir chase for a 4th continental title
