Plans to edge out Abdulmumuni Jibirin from his seat as Speaker of the House of Representatives have been uncovered.
Some members of the House of Representatives loyal to the Speaker, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, are presently plotting a showdown with Hon. Jibirin Abdulmumuni, a prominent member of the Green Chamber from Kano State.
Their grouse with Abdulmumuni, according to informed sources, is the fact that his closeness with the speaker may hinder their chances of getting juicy contracts from the house.
The Kano born politician was director general of the campaign that delivered Gbajabiamila.
He is regarded as the only lawmaker with such rare achievement in the history of Nigeria’s parliament.
But many in Gbajabiamila’s camp do not want him close to the speaker because he has led two of the most important committees, Finance and Appropriation, consecutively with a wide scope of oversight covering almost every sector.
Recall, Abdulmumuni became popular in the last administration when he allegedly accused the immediate past Speaker of the House, Hon Yakubu Dogara, of padding the national budget, an issue which became a national discourse before it ended.
