Antoine Griezmann insists this is the right time to join Barcelona after he completed his much anticipated switch from Atletico Madrid.

The 28-year-old had turned down the opportunity to join the La Liga champions in the summer of 2018 and even signed a new contract with Atletico.

But a year on, the World Cup winner has made a U-turn on that decision and pushed for a transfer to Ernesto Valverde's side.

A deal to take him to the Camp Nou was finalized on Friday when Barca agreed to trigger his €120 million (£107m/$134m) release clause.

And speaking in his first public comments after he was announced as a Barcelona player, Griezmann said he was hopeful other opportunities would come around again.

"When I was a boy, my dad taught me that trains don't come around just once," the forward said in a video posted on Twitter by Barcelona.

"Now it's time to take on the challenge of a new destination. Finally, our paths cross.

"I'll defend the Barca colours with all my determination and commitment. It's our time, it's our journey."

Although the Frenchman has joined Barca, the saga that trailed his move to the Spanish giant does not appear to be over as Atletico are threatening to take legal action.

The capital club insists Barcelona should have paid €200m to activate Griezmann's release clause having agreed a deal with the player before his clause dropped on July 1.
