Senegal are through to the final of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations after defeating the Carthage Eagles of Tunisia.

A Dylan Broon own goal in the second half of extra time gave the West Africans the win in a game that had lots of talking points.

Both sides missed penalties in the second while another was controversially called off after the referee consulted the VAR.

Senegal were the better side in the first half and should have gone into the break by at least a goal lead. Youssouf Sabaly's curling shot hit the frame of the goal while Sadio Mane failed to convert after rounding Tunisia goalkeeper, Mouez Hassen.

The Tunisians grew into the game and had chances at the start of the second half. Taha Khenissi and Sassi came close, with Alfred Gomis forced to make a save to deny the latter.

But it was in the final parts of the second half that either side could have won it. With 17 minutes left on the clock, Tunisia were awarded a penalty after Kalidou Koulibaly handled in the area.

Quarterfinal hero Ferjani Sassi stepped up against Senegal goalkeeper but his effort was saved quite easily.

Five minutes later, Henri Saivet also had the resulting penalty saved after Dylan Bronn was adjudged to have fouled Ismaila Sarr in the box.

The most crucial moment of the game, however, came in extra time. With ten minutes left to play before shootouts, Dylan Broon turned the ball into his own net after a miscommunication with his goalkeeper.

The Tunisians tried to play their way back into the game but Senegal saw the match off to progress to their second continental final.
