Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, on Sunday morning, paid a condolence visit to Pa Rueben Fasoranti in Akure, Ondo State, after losing his daughter, Mrs. Funke Olakunrin, to some suspected Fulani herdsmen on Friday.

Fasoranti is the leader of the Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere.

Osinbajo, while addressing the family, assured them that the federal government would deploy military men to the highways in a bid to stop incessant attacks on unsuspecting victims.

“As you know, I am here to commiserate with the families of Olakunri and Pa Reuben Fasoranti.

“Our security agencies have been tasked with ensuring (that) perpetrators of this crime are apprehended and brought to justice.”

Kehinde Fasoranti, the brother to the deceased, while recounting the ordeal leading to the death of his sister said she was attacked with her family on Ore-Akure road, while returning to Lagos after visiting her 94-year-old father in Akure.

"Her vehicle was ambushed around Ore town by the gunmen but I can't state the exact number of them that attacked them.

“The gunmen started shooting at them at the Ore expressway and the driver had to quickly turn back but unknown to him there are some of them (gunmen) in the bush by the other side.

"So, they shoot sporadically, firing at tyres of their SUV she was travelling along with other persons. There were five people in the car, a driver, herself, a cook and two of her nephews.

"Sadly, she was hit by a bullet and was rushed to a hospital but she lost too much blood and she died minutes after,” Kehinde stated.
