Cameroon have sacked dutch tactician, Clarence Seedorf as their national football team head coach after a disappointing Africa Cup of Nations.

The defending champions failed to go past the round of 16 as they were knocked out by Nigeria, and that has prompted the federation relieve the football legend of his job.

Seedorf leaves the position along side his assistant, and former international team-mate Patrick Kluivert.

A statement signed by the football federation president Seidou Mbombo Njoya, confirming the dismissal of the 43-year-old who became the Indomitable Lions coach in August 2018 read:

"After consulting the Fecafoot Executive Committee and the Ministry of Sports and Education, in the wake of the premature elimination of Cameroon senior male national team from the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, the Cameroon Football Federation, in conformity with the stipulations of the resolutive condition of their respective employment contracts, has decided to terminate the duties of coach Clarence Clyde Seedorf and his assistant Patrick Stephan Kluivert with immediate effect."

The sack of the AC Milan great comes just a day after the Minister of Sports and Education Narcisse Mouelle Kombi called for him to be replaced after they failed to reach their set targets.

Cameroon managed only one win in the competition and finished second in their group behind Ghana.

Seedorf's future had been a hot topic even before the Tournament in Egypt, with locals not happy with the fact that he was working from outside the country and only visited for matches.
