NFF president Amaju Pinnick has confirmed that Gernot Rohr will carry on as Super Eagles head coach despite calls for his sack.

Nigeria were beaten 2-1 by Algeria in the semi-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt, ending their hopes of winning a fourth continental title.

After that defeat, football fans in the country, as well as journalists, called for the sack of the German tactician.

But the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has moved to dismissed rumors that the 66-year-old's appointment will be terminated.

In an exclusive interview with Nigerian journalist Osasu Abayiuwana, Amaju Pinnick said Rohr won't be leaving as he has met his 2019 Afcon target.

Pinnick, however, disclosed that the tactician will be sent for a refresher training in Germany with Bayern to upgrade his technical ability.

“Gernot Rohr will not be sacked as Super Eagles coach. He will remain in the job. I have complete confidence in him,” Pinnick said.

“Gernot has taken us to the semi-final, the target we set for him.  Right now, we have a third-place match to play for and we intend to have our team leave Egypt with honors.

“There are some people that have been calling on me and the federation to sack Gernot. But I am not going to do that.

“In fact, Gernot is going on a refresher training period with Bayern Munich after the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations. We have a long-term plan with him.

“We have had rocky and difficult moments in our relationship, but this is normal in any relationship between two people.

“He is a good coach and we want him to remain with us. That said, we will work together on what needs to be improved upon.”

Rohr and his team will be looking to finish the tournament on a high when they play against Tunisia in the third-place match on Wednesday.https://twitter.com/osasuo/status/1150980260143308801?s=19
