Odion Ighalo has won the 2019 Africa Cup of Nation Golden Boot award after he finished as the tournament's top scorer.

The 30-year-old finished with five goals, two more than his closest rivals DRC's Cedric Bekambu, Senegalese forward, Sadio Mane and Algerian duo Riyad Mahrez, and Adam Ounas.

Ighalo scored the Super Eagles' first goal of the competition when he came off the bench to score the winner against Burundi.

The China-based striker failed to find the back of the net in the other two group games but he put up a Man of the Match performance in the Round of 16 game against Cameroon.

Ighalo scored twice in that game before supplying the assist for Alex Iwobi to score the winner as Nigeria won 3-2.

He found the back of the net once more in the semi-final defeat to Algeria before scoring the only goal in the Third-place match against Tunisia.

Ighalo has returned to his club in China after reportedly notifying Super Eagles handler, Gernot Rohr that he is quitting the national team.
