A Nigerian Air Force [NAF] operative, identified as Bashir Umar, has been recognised by the force for reportedly returning the sum of €37,000 [Euros], valued at N312.7M in Nigerian currency, to its rightful owner, Alhaji Ahmad.

Alhaji Ahmad, a dignitary in Kano, reportedly misplaced the money which was sealed in a parcel at Hajj camp in Kano State.

According to close sources, Bashir, who is currently a member of the Nigerian Air Force [NAF] Mobile Air Defense Team [MADT], was on inspection duties with a fellow personnel when he found the money on July 16, 2019. The contact details of the owner, Alhaji Ahmad, were boldly written on the parcel and that was how he located the owner and returned the parcel. In it was the complete amount [€37000].

The Chief of Air Staff [CAS], Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, has commended the officer in a statement for showing great honesty and total transparency in his line of duty. He also directed the NAF to reward Bashir Umar accordingly, so as to encourage other personnel of the force to display similar traits that signify NAF's prestige and uphold their integrity.

The statement reads:

"The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, has directed the Chief of Administration at the Headquarters NAF, Air Vice Marshal Kingsley Lar, to immediately come up with modalities to reward the airman so as to encourage other personnel of the service to continue to embody attitudes and behaviours that reflect NAF’s core values of Integrity, Excellence and Service Delivery.”
