Aminu Abdullahi, a 23-year-old man, from the Nasarawa Loca Government Area [LGA] of Kano State was confirmed dead on Friday morning after drowning in a pond outside the Hotoro quarters in Nasarawa LGA. He was reportedly having his bath in the pond when he met his Waterloo.
The Public Relations Officer [PRO] of Kano State Fire Service, Mr Saidu Mohammed, told news agencies that the unfortunate incident occurred in the early hours of Friday morning.
"We received a distress call today from one Mr Habila John, at about 08:30 a.m. that Abdullahi’s body was found floating in a pond.
“On receiving the information, we quickly sent our rescue team to the scene at about 08:35 a.m. but the cause of the incident is still under investigation for now.
“Abdullahi was rescued unconscious and was handed over to the police,’’ Saidu said.
An anonymous resident at the Hotoro quarters claimed the deceased, Aminu Abdullahi, constantly took his bath in the pond and was probably unlucky with the currents of the water that day.
Mr. Saidu also gave a warning to people of the community to stop bathing in any open water, as the currents are unpredictable and dangerous.
