There are indications that the family of the slain corps member and Channels TV reporter, Precious Owolabi, may likely get insurance cover worth one million naira from the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).

Owolabi was hit by a stray bullet during the shoot-out between the police and the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), also known as the Shiites, in Abuja last week Monday.

His remains were buried on Friday in Kaduna State.

The NYSC has notified the family of the deceased, according to reports, of the one million naira that will be paid to them which serves as insurance for their departed son.

Announcing the benefit, the Director General of NYSC noted that the money could not redeem his life and corps members who die on duty deserve more than one million naira benefit.

“The management is deeply saddened by the sudden and unfortunate death of Owolabi, FC/18C/5226, whose untimely death occurred while on an official assignment during the Shiites’ and police clash in Abuja.

“The processing will cover the death certificate and other documentation. There is an insurance company that handles it for the NYSC.

“Until his death, Owolabi, a graduate of Performing Arts from the University of Ilorin was a serving corps member with Channels Television.

“He was loaded with prospects in journalism profession.

“We join the entire family of Owolabi in this moment of grief and pray that the Almighty God console them and repose the soul of the departed,” the DG of NYSC stated.
