Bullets From 2015 Still In El-Zakzaky And Wife’s Bodies - Femi Falana

Austin Papi

Iran recently requested for the Shiites leader, Ibraheem El-Zakzaky, to be brought to their country for treatment. Now a Kaduna High Court has adjourned the ruling of that application till August 5.

The hearing would determine if the government would approve the medical bail of the leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) and his wife, Zenaat El-Zakzaky.

The judge presiding over the case between El-Zakzaky and the Kaduna State Government adjourned the ruling on the bail to August 5 for final hearing. Meanwhile, the defense attorney representing the Shiites leader, Femi Falana (SAN), disclosed to journalists immediately after the hearing that his client and wife are in urgent need of medical attention abroad.

He also informed the press that bullets shot at El-Zakzaky and his wife are still in their bodies till date since the incident in 2015.

“In fact, he was not in court because his health had gone very bad. Even during the last appearance, he could not climb the staircase to the courtroom. That is why we applied that he be excused from appearance in court and it was granted.

“The pellets in their bodies had resulted in lead poison and they need to be urgently removed by highly professional medical personnel,” Falana explained.

However, the Counsel to the Kaduna State Government, Mr. Dayo Bayero (SAN), countered Femi Falana's claim. He explained that the Shiites leader and his wife do not have to go abroad for treatment when the wounds can be properly attended to here in Nigeria.

He also claimed that he had evaluated the medical reports and saw nothing critical that would require treatment abroad.
