Atletico Madrid new boy Joao Felix has revealed that he hopes to have a career as good as that of his fellow countryman Cristiano Ronaldo.

The 19-year-old who made the switch to Spain this summer from Benfica for €126 million (£113m/$142m) says it would be "a dream" to have a career similar to that of the Juventus star.

After lifting the maiden UEFA Nations League trophy with Portugal alongside Ronaldo in June, he is now hoping to go on and take La Liga by storm.

Ronaldo is regarded as one of the greatest footballers to have ever played the game and Felix in an interview with ESPN shared his dreams of having a career like Ronaldo’s.

"Cristiano Ronaldo has won five Ballon d'Or trophies and this is the dream of every player.

"Obviously I would like to be like Cristiano."

The youngster was brought in presumably by the Spanish side as a direct replacement for Antoine Griezmann who left La Roja in controversial circumstances to join Barcelona for €120m (£107m/$134m) earlier this month.

"I saw the strikers that Atletico had and they were great players, great strikers. I want to be the next [in the list] and this is why I chose to come here," the forward said when asked why he chose Atletico.

Felix scored his first goal for Diego Simeone's side and assisted two more in their 7-3 friendly win over Real Madrid last week after limping off in his first match earlier this month against Numancia after sustaining an injury.
